Financial Insight WA

We have 10 grants available to public schools in WA to assist in implementing a financial literacy initiative. Grants are $2,500 each and will be given to projects that for example:

  • promote a greater understanding of how to manage money
  • introduce or build upon how to save and budget
  • teach positive behaviours around consumption, or
  • have been developed to address a particular identified need amongst the students or local community.

Why are we doing this?

Teachers Credit Union aims to enhance the financial wellbeing of our members and we recognise our important role in supporting the education community. The aim of our Financial Insight initiative is to assist teachers to empower their students with financial awareness – in a project that you, as their teacher, see as beneficial.

Teaching financial literacy

Teaching financial literacy is not just about helping your students with understanding numbers – it is helping them understand how financial awareness impacts on and relates to their everyday life, both now and in the future.

Financial literacy can enhance learning outcomes in any discipline and across any age – whether it is home economics, visual arts, technology and enterprise, English or mathematics.

What could your school do?

The Australian Government has developed a curriculum map for financial literacy as part of their Consumer and Financial Literacy Professional Learning Program. Find the WA version here.
