Are you eligible?

The First Home Owners Grant provides up to $14,000 and up to $21,000 to first home buyers who build a new home or purchase a newly constructed home towards the cost of buying that home. You only get it once.

To be eligible you must:

  • be a person, not a company or trust
  • be a permanent resident or Australian citizen
  • be at least 18 years old
  • never have owned or part-owned a residential property
  • enter into a contract for the purchase of a home or sign a contract to build a home
  • not have received a grant under the First Home Owners Grant Act 2000 in any State or Territory
  • occupy the home as your principal place of residence for at least six months within 12 months of settlement.

These are the broad criteria; visit the website for your state to see if there are any other eligibility criteria that might affect you.

Since we’re a registered agent, you can apply for the grant when you apply for a Teachers Credit Union home loan.
