Renovating your property

The first question, of course, is how to fund your renovation. Teachers Flexi Choice or Interest Only variable loan are our recommended products for renovations. They include a progressive payment facility with no limit of draw downs, so it’s ideal for members paying a builder or contractor.

Before you start renovating

Here are some things to consider before you take the renovation plunge.

  • Don’t fix it, if it’s not broken. Most renovations can wait unless they impact your day to day living.
  • Fix the little things. It’s easy and cost effective to give you property a coat of paint and put down new carpet. They make your property feel brand new.
  • Gain council approval where necessary.
  • Fix obvious faults. Fix leaking taps, broken shower screens and replace window coverings.
  • Don’t overcapitalise. Research upfront to make sure the cost of the renovations are within the current value of your property.
  • Call in the experts. If in doubt call in the experts to ensure your renovation dollar is well spent.
  • Get more than one quote. To compare the price.
