Helping our schools help the environment

28 April 2009

The first round of 2009 grants from the Teachers Environment Fund have now been awarded.

We received around 50 thoughtful and interesting applications for environmental projects, from which our Corporate Social Responsibility Committee chaired by Chief Executive Steve James, had the difficult task of selecting winners.

“The Teachers Environment Fund is synergy in action – our members who make the simple switch to online statements help grow this Fund, so that environmental innovations and projects in schools around the country are initiated as a result,” said Steve James.

The successful schools are:

  • Dorchester E.T.O, (NSW), for a sustainable garden ($5,000)
  • Coonabarabran High School (NSW), for an indigenous garden ($1,770)
  • Gowrie Primary School (ACT), for a rainwater tank and its installation ($4,123)
  • Erskine Park High School (NSW), for a water harvesting project ($4,925)
  • Bulli Public School (NSW), for worm farms ($800)
  • Mount Terry Public School (NSW), for a habitat project ($2,550)

Congratulations to the recipients. We look forward to hearing how your projects progress, and sharing your stories with all our members.

And a special thanks to all our members who have made the switch to online statements– for every one who does, we contribute a dollar to the Fund. That’s a lot of members, but still plenty more to go!
