ATM security alert

06 April 2009

Members may have noticed recent media reports about card ‘skimming’ at ATMs. While the risk to individual members is relatively small, it is important for everyone to practise some basic awareness when using an ATM. These simple guidelines, which are part of our ongoing security commitment, will help to minimise any risk when using an ATM.

  • always cover the keypad with your hand or wallet, and make sure no one is looking over your shoulder to see you enter your PIN
  • if you request a transaction record, take it with you when you leave the ATM
  • check for anyone acting suspiciously near the ATM, and if you are concerned, don’t use it
  • if an ATM appears damaged or tampered with, DO NOT use it. Contact the owner (the numbers are displayed on the ATM) or call Teachers Credit Union.
